Things around here have been anything but normal, which is why I needed to go A.W.O.L. for a while. Things have just taken their toll and I seem to have developed depression from all the stress. I think if I could just get around better and be more comfortable my mood would improve. It just takes it's toll knowing my life will never be the same again. Things like doing laundry can be quite a challenge. Getting the laundry, soap, fabric softener up and down the stairs is impossible to do in one trip. Shopping is also difficult. Lifting items into the cart and back out to get rung up, then back in the cart, and out again and into the car. Then once you are home, trying to get them inside... Most of the time I have to have someone go shopping with me, that's if I'm even up to going at all. You just take for granted how easy it is to do everyday tasks till you start having trouble doing them...Sorry, I didn't mean for this to end up in this direction...

Hubby and I moved from our 5 bedroom house into something smaller. The kids are on their own so we really didn't need all the space anyway. Buddy (the dog) and Purl (the cat) have adjusted well, although Buddy seemed to have an easier time than Purl.

My knee problems have gotten worse. I recently completed about 2 months of P.T. The P.T. did help to strengthen my muscles but did nothing for the pain. I am now having problems with my "good knee", back and hips. Last month the doctor changed my meds, which has helped some. At this point there is no happy medium. It's painful to sit, to stand and to walk. But you push through because you have no other choice. You can't stop living your life. You do what you can, when you can, as well as you can and hope that it's good enough. You get used to walking slow, and having people stare at you because you are 40 something, wear a knee brace and walk with a cane. I think the thing that gets me the most is when people gawk. If you are going to be like that and ask your friend, "what do you think happened to her?" loud enough to be heard by others, why not just ask??? I have seriously thought about having a shirt made that says..."You want to know? Then ask!" or how about..."I shattered my knee. Still curious? Just ask." What do you think???

Anyway...
Then I broke my glasses and had to have an eye exam and was told things look suspicious, go to a specialist. So, off I went. It turns out there is a chance I could develop Glaucoma. I need to go back in December for another eye exam. Oh, and I ended up needing bifocals.

The girl is getting a divorce. I can't go into details right now but maybe at a later date I will be able too. I will say that I am not surprised at the recent events that have that have come to pass and I truly hope that the saying "What comes around, goes around" holds true in this case.

How about some good news...Hubby got a job offer from a good company, and decided to take it. He is working 10 minutes from home so no more commuting, he got a pay increase, great hours and the benefits are really good too. It's so nice to see him come home in a good mood!

Knitting news...
I haven't done much knitting over the summer. I did finally complete the back of the cable sweater and start the front. (I'll see if I can get a picture posted in the next few days.) But that's all I've done. About a week ago I decided to commit to at least one row a day. I have been able to stick to that. I never thought it would be so very difficult to pick up those needles. The desire is there but the drive isn't. I would really like to knit like I used to but just don't have the energy too. Maybe with the cooler weather coming I'll be able to get back into the swing of things.

Happy Mother's Day and other stuff...

I just wanted to wish all the mom's out there a "Happy Mother's day". (Shouldn't everyday be Mother's Day?)

Well, another birthday has come and gone and I'm now another year older. Does anyone else out there feel like they can't possibly be as old as they are? I know I certainly don't think of myself as 42...24 maybe, but not 42. Although there are days when I feel like I'm 84. Why is it we don't see ourselves as others see us? I think I need to meditate on this...

I have been in a knitting slump for several weeks now. I just can't seem to shake it. As a result, I have not had anything to post about. However, I have been cleaning up my craft room little bit, by little bit. I hate making decisions like...what stays and what goes. Trying to weed through my knitting books is the worst. Every time I put a book in the give away pile, it comes back out later. I am also trying to decide what to do with the things I'm getting rid of... Warning Now Entering A Rant Zone...The last few times I thinned things out, I donated the stuff to a local nursing home/retirement community for the residence. Everyone told me how much the residence needed things to do, and would love to have the items. Then I found out that the employees were taking most of the items for the own use and the residence got the little bit that had been picked through. I can't even describe how I felt when the receptionist (a "paid" employee in her mid 50's who drives) came up to me and thanked me for the yarn that she had used to make SEVERAL baby sweaters, blankets and outfits for her new grandbaby. Then she informed me that she wasn't the only employee who had benefited from this stuff. Maybe it's me...maybe I shouldn't be bothered by this, but I am still really ticked off about it. I just feel like this stuff was stolen from the people it was supposed to go to. I have since decided to try to find another place to donate items. So if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know...Now Leaving The Rant Zone...

That's Life...

Things have been crazy around here lately, so not much knitting is taking place. I just purchased a few more skeins of Jiffy from ebay. I am now confident I have enough to finish the sweater. YYYEEEAAAHHH!!! I think I need to frog the sleeve of the Cable sweater. I messed up the increases somehow and have more on my counter than I actually worked. Personally, I think someone might have been just goofing around and moved it on me. I caught a family member putting it down the other day. Don't they know knitting equipment is sacred??? ;) Needless to say, I'm not happy about this. Why is it that my non-knitters feel the need to touch my knitting stuff that is left unattended? I don't get it.

The Crayons socks I mentioned a while back, were frogged and reworked. I found I was using the wrong size needles. I usually only work on them when I am waiting somewhere, like doctor visits and such. I am finally ready to work the heel, which I don't do while waiting, then they will be returned to the knitting bag.

I am to the point that all my UFO's are all in need of a little more attention than I am willing to give them at the moment. Sleeves need increases, socks need heels and blue cable sweat needs decreases. I just don't have the uninterrupted time right now. Someone always seems to need my attention when I'm in the middle of something. I would love just a couple hours a day when no one needed my attention. I thought the older people got, the less they would need me. Boy was that thinking wrong.

In other news...
My daughter got married. She eloped April 4th. I'm not ready for this. I never thought I would be a mother-in-law at this stag in my life. All I have to say is I had better not become a grandma anytime soon!!!

Long Overdue Replies to comments...

Carol M,
Thank you for your offer to check your local craft stores. If you are out and about, and happen to come across a couple of skeins of Lionbrand Jiffy Savannah color...Please let me know. The sweater is still on the needles, I haven't touched it since I realized I didn't have enough yarn. Thank You.

Ashley,
Thanks for you advice on waiting to frog the sweater. I'm so glad I waited before frogging because I found a couple of skeins. Thanks for suggesting I wait.

Roxie,
I'm sorry this is so late and long overdue. Thank you for your well wishes on my knee situation.

Cable Sweater Update
I did manage to find three skeins of the Jiffy Savannah color on eBay. They arrived yesterday. I am planning to resume work on it this weekend. I can't wait to get this sweater finished.

While I was looking around for more yarn, I started another sweater. It's also a cable pattern. This one will take a little longer to finish. I am using worsted weight yarn. Here's a photo...

Blue Cable Sweater

This pattern is from Family Circle Easy Knitting Holiday 2004 issue. It's a unisex sweater. It has the same 6 row cable pattern as the other sweater, it just has a lot more cable. It's a fun project. The only trouble I'm having now is that I keep dropping stitches. Maybe I'm messing myself up because of the yarn weight. The other sweater is "chunky" weight and this is "worsted" weight. That's the only thing I can figure. I better get back to work on it, I'd like to have a bit more done on this sweater before I resume work on the other.

Not Enough Yarn...

I am 4 balls short of having enough yarn to finish my Cable sweater. The front and back are finished, but I don't have enough for the sleeves. I checked eBay with no luck. I went to every craft store in my area and nothing. I even logged on to the Lionbrand website and I couldn't find it, I think it has been discontinued. So now what?!?!?! I was thinking of turning it into vest...now the question is, do I leave it as a pullover "V' neck or frog the front and and make the cardigan version? I think maybe the cardigan version. I think a pullover vest would add to my "fluffiness". What do you think? Should I frog or not? I was also thinking of adding a hood. I think I might have enough for one if I frog a couple inches off the body and I have two balls left over that where going toward the sleeves.

Quick Cable Update...

It turns out I will be changing the neck line anyway. I knit the neck the way the pattern said, but it just isn't right. I think it's a mistake in the pattern. Unfortunately the pattern I'm using is from a magazine printed in the 80's and I can't find anything about corrections on the internet. So I will be experimenting to find a neck line I like.

I cast on for the sleeves also. It looks like I will have to add a few inches to them as well. So far the back is finished and the front up to the point of shaping the neckline. I hope to finish that tomorrow and cast on for the sleeves. I decided to stick with the round neckline instead of the "V" neck. I'm just not sure about how to change it. This is what I am hoping my sweater will look like...

Pullover

With all the doc appointments lately I thought I should cast on for a new pair of socks. I just hate sitting in the doctors office waiting to be seen with nothing to do. The yarn is "Crayons" Simple Stripes by knit Picks. I'm using a size 2 needle. So far I'm having good luck with them. The last time I cast on socks it was the "Sweet Tart" socks. I had a lot of trouble with dropping stitches. I don't know if you can see, but I'm starting work on the heels. I always work both socks at the same time. On the first pair of socks, I knit one then the other. My gauge was totally off and I ended up with a normal sock and a huge sock. I learned my lesson.

Nothing new to report on the knee...It's still here and it still hurts. I ice it daily and use the Tens Machine. The Tens unit is incredible. I got new 2 in. x 3 in. electrodes for it last week instead of the 2 in. x 2 in. pads I was getting for the past year. The new larger electrodes are Wonderful!!! I wish I had gotten them all along. With the unit I'm not "pain free" but I do get some relief. I just wish I could use the Tens unit and the knee brace together but haven't had any luck with that yet. The brace interferes with the electrodes. Oh well...some relief is better than none and I'll take what I can get.

What's on my needles...

I finally started a new project. I decided on a cable sweater. I had so much fun with the Irish Hiking scarf that I wanted to do a sweater. What do you think so far??? I tried to get a photo of the picture in the pattern but it didn't come out.
Back of my Cable sweater

I haven't decided yet, but, I may change it from a round neckline to a V neck since that is what I was originally looking for anyway.

I finished my Irish Hiking Scarf. TAA DAA...
Irish Hiking Scarf

I didn't fringe it. I thought it looked a little more grown-up without the fringe. What a fun project!!! After I finish the sweater, I may make another in a solid cream color.

I have not just been sitting around knitting lately. Hubby and I went to the park the other day and this is one of the shots we took...
Park

I started the injections for my knee on Monday. YYOOUUCCHH... Boy did it hurt. Although it didn't help that it's been so tender lately. 4 more shots to go and the doc says some of my pain will be in less. We'll see...I'm still skeptical. If anyone out there has had these shots please tell me how they worked for you...

My life update...

I finally finished my Irish Hiking Scarf. I used 2 1/2 skeins of Lionbrand Homespun. It came out really great. I'll post a picture as soon as I get some batteries for my camera.

With the scarf off my needles, I am now looking for a new project. I am hoping to find a "V" neck, long sleeved sweater with a simple stitch pattern. (anything simple that isn't miles of St. St. I am seriously looking at the Cable Tee from the Ample knitters website. One of the ladies on the list designed the pattern for a KAL last year (at least I think it was last year). It's a free pattern and it comes in many sizes. I had several ladies suggest it and they said it wouldn't be too hard. I just hope I can add length to the sleeves and not have it look out of place.

While I'm trying to find the perfect "V" neck sweater, I may start another one to pass the time. I was looking through my patterns and came across an old cables sweater from the 80's. It looks very similar to the Irish Hiking Scarf pattern. I may just go ahead and start it after all.

I know I haven't posted about my knee in a while so here goes. I just got approval for the Synvisc injection. I have been waiting since last Aug. These injections are supposed to work like WD40 for the knee. It's supposed to lubricate the joint and reduce pain. I sure hope so...it's been so bad lately. I had a cortisone shot a few weeks ago, which seems to have worn off already.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
May all your knitting and non-knitting dreams come true in 2006.

Let sleeping dogs lie...

Who's more comfortable???

It's hard to tell. I don't know how well you can see it, but Buddy wedged himself between the back of the couch and the cushion. He decided to use Mr. Neander's arm for a pillow. Buddy must have been comfortable because he slept like that for quite a while. Isn't it amazing how these animals start off as pets and quickly become a part of the family??? By the way, Mr.Neander is the one in the solid blue shirt. Buddy is in the striped sweater. :) (Sorry honey, I couldn't help it, I just had to pick on you.) ;)

Irish Hiking Scarf

Here's the picture I promised. I can't believe how fast it's knitting up. I signed up for the KAL and am waiting for a response. I checked out the KAL site, and found some very talented knitters!!! I especially love viewing the FO's. Right now I'm trying to decide weather it's better to fringe or not to fringe...(sorry, I couldn't help that). I still haven't found a mitten pattern. I have not given up hope. As soon as I get the chance I'll start going though my knitting books and magazines. I may already have a pattern hiding in my craft room. If you have any suggestions for a mitten pattern just leave me a message.

Happy Holiday's...

Happy Yule, Merry Christmas, Happy Kawansa, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year...I hope I didn't miss anyone. (Please forgive any spelling errors.)

I hope your holiday's are going well and Santa was good to you!!! Santa made a stop here and everyone was very pleased. My daughter surprised me with two skeins of "Homespun from Lionbrand yarns", in the Deft color. So, I finally started a project I have wanted to work for a long time now...The "Irish Hiking scarf". At first I was worried that you wouldn't be able to see the pattern, but it shows up just fine. I am very pleased with it. The cable pattern is much easier than I thought it would be. Now, if I could only find a mitten/fingerless glove pattern that would match. I have searched google all evening without any luck. If it's out there I will find it. I think this will be an awesome set.

Hubby bought me "The Art of Knitting 2" dvd. What a great gift. I don't know how to do things like knit with more than one color at a time, unless it's stripes. Well this DVD shows you how, among other things. It has some really great features on it. Whether you are new to knitting or have been knitting for a while, this DVD is a keeper.

Mom got the Wheat socks and seemed to like them. I'm still waiting for her to try them. I couldn't get a picture, the batteries in the camera died. (I couldn't even get pictures of presents being opened.) I will try to go get more batteries tomorrow so I can get a photo of the light blue socks. They are finished, just waiting for the toe to be stitched up and the needles removed.

I think that with the coming new year, I should and will, make more of an effort to finish some UFO's. I think the first project will be the "Shawl Collar Sweater" I started so long ago. I think I will also make more of an effort to knit for myself. I am one of those knitters who gives her knitting as presents. I have been knitting for a few years now and don't have much to show for it. I think I'm ready to start being a little selfish and make myself a few pullover sweaters. I have a few patterns I have wanted to try for a long time and I think now is the time.

Socks update...

The socks are coming along. The "blue socks" only have the toe yet to be finished and the wheat socks got HUGE. So I frogged and re-cast on. I am currently working on their heel. I need to hurry with the wheat socks. I decided to give them to mom for a Yule gift. I hope she likes them. I'll post pictures when they are done.

I am also working on mitten, hat and scarf sets for the nieces and nephews. I just didn't have time to knit them so I'm making them from polar fleece. Scarves and mittens are cut out and waiting to be stitched together. I can't decide on which hat pattern to use. I hope I can get them finished in the next couple of days.

As you can tell I survived Thanksgiving. Everything went well and everyone played together very nicely. I was very surprised. I just hope our next get together goes as well. And here it is...

I got the chance to wear it today, and it's really warm. I used denim for the outer shell and two layers of polar fleece inside. I also made matching mittens.

I started another pair of socks. These are made with Patons Classic Wool. It's worsted weight so I'm using size 6 needles.

I had to put the wheat colored socks on hold till I can get to the store to buy regular needles. The needles I started with are the ones I use while traveling. I prefer aluminum needles when doing socks and of course I can't find them. So, I will have to replace them. This is my first sock project with a hand wash only wool. I wonder if I'll remember to hand wash them??? Just how small do you think they would get if I put them in the washer and dryer??? I hope I never find out.

NO MORE SWEET TARTS...

I give up!!! I know, I know, I know. I said I wouldn't do it but I did. I re-frogged those Sweet Tart socks twice since my last post. I just couldn't get it right. I know I said I would work them till I got it right...I just couldn't look at that yarn anymore!!! I frogged them yesterday. I had gotten to the point where you turn the heel and I noticed a dropped stitch at the ribbed band. I thought I was going to cry. I must have reworked those socks 6 or 8 times. That was it...They went to the frog pond.

I started a new pair and all is well so far.

wool-ease wheat socks

It's worsted weight yarn on size 4 needles. I just used the same pattern you would use for the sock yarn. They seem like they might be alright. I have rather "fluffy" feet so they might just give me a little extra room. They are much thicker too, which will work out well since this is supposed to be a bad winter. If it's anything like last year, we'll be buried in lake effect snow before you know it. All the T.V. weather people are talking about snow Wed. and Thurs. They even said possibly we may get enough snow to shovel.

Here is the second pair of socks I made. I had never worn handmade socks before and wondered how they would be. Let me just say this...If you ever get the chance to wear them, do it. They were so comfortable. I just wish I could knit faster. I would like to eventually replace ALL my socks with handmade socks.

purple magic stripe socks

I went to my local yarn shop and started a wish list. So if anyone out there is shopping for me for the holidays, I WANT SOCK YARN!!! But, gift certificates for sock yarn works too. :)

My Favorite Fireman...

This is my nephew Bobby. He came to my neck of the woods this year for Halloween. He was the only fireman we had this year. Am I the only person bothered by this new trend. Where have all the hero's gone??? Anyway...As you can see he is eating his favorite snack food, green beans. I bought him a pound to take Trick-or-Treating. My brother said he munch on them all night. :)

I recently, bought a new sock book and some yarn for more socks. I like this book a lot. It has the pattern and three different versions for each sock...sock weight, sport weight and worsted weight. When I finish the Sweet Tart socks I think I may try the worsted weight socks next. From what I've been told they are just like traditional "boot socks". It might be fun to work on something a little different next time around

I am still working on the Sweet Tart socks. I have frogged and re-knit the heel several times since my last post. I just can't seem to get it right. I think I am becoming obsessed with finishing these socks. I refuse to give up. This will become a working pair of socks if I have anything to say about it!!! All other projects are on hold till these socks are finished.

Socks and fur babies...

I thought I would document the progress I was making on the frogged and re-knit "Sweet Tart" socks. The color is darker in the picture than in person. So far I have 4" done on both socks. I have to knit both socks at the same time or my gauge isn't consistent. I can't wait till they are done so I can wear them. A few months ago I had made a purple striped pair. Well, I finally wore them. I guess I was afraid to after putting so much time and energy into them. I must say, I think they were the most comfortable sock I ever wore. I can't wait to start my next pair.
Sweet Tart Socks

I mentioned in my last post about keeping busy. The first is an old train case made new. I thought I could use a change so I thought I would buy myself a new makeup case. I couldn't believe how expensive makeup cases were when I priced them. I bought this for $3.00 at a local thrift store. The inside was torn up and badly stained, but the outside isn't so bad. I removed everything from the inside and completely made new padded walls. The only thing I purchased for this project was the uphostery tacks used to hold the lace strip in place, and of course the train case. Everything else I had on hand. The mirror is the original. For the lace strip that runs completely around the inside, I sewed elastic to it, and it holds items rather well. I like it better than the plastic boxes that saw. And the price was right.

Train Case

Train Case with new inside.

Padded Tray

These charms I won on Ebay. I don't know how well they show up on your monitor. Going from left to right the first is a sweater on knitting needles. Second is a sheep. Third is a little sign that says "I love (actually it's a heart) 2 knit" and has a small ball of yarn with knitting needle stuck in it. And the fourth pair is a larger ball of yarn with needle stuck in it.

Ear rings

I managed to keep myself busy whenever I can.

What's new???

Mom went to a garage sale and called to ask if I would like her to pick up the yarn they had there. Well, being the "pack rat" that I am, I could not resist. So I said sure, why not. Imagine my suprize when she brought me about 40 (brand new, never used) skein of "Dazzillair" yarn. There were about 20 half skeins too. There are all kinds of colors. All that yarn for $15.00. I couldn't believe it. It opened up a lot of possibilities for my stash. I will probably use some if it to make the sweater coat from "Ozeyarn.com". http://www.ozeyarn.com/category67_1.htm I ordered the pattern last week after drooling over it for a year.

I have finally started knitting again. This last flare up I had turned out to be the worst I have ever had. So instead of starting another new project I have been working on the sam old ones. I had to frog and re work the front panel of my blue on blue Shawl Collar Coat. I realized that the "almost completed" front was not wide enough. The Einstien is on hold till I finish the Shawl collar coat. I also frogged and cast on again the Sweet Tart socks. I was not happy with the way they were turning out. I found a sock pattern for wider feet and ankles, so I went with it. And I am happy to report, so far so good.

Since knitting had been out of the question, I was doing a little sewing.

Blue on Blue Wrap

This dark/light blue are two layers sewn together. I wish I could get more knitting in but I just can't right now. My hands have been hurting a lot lately. I haven't had problems like this since the last time my R.A. flared up. I suppose typing would be out of the question if I actually knew how to type. I guess it's not so bad typing with two index fingers. :) So far I am half way finished with the bottom of my coat. I try to get at least a couple of rows done per day.

Yesterday I thought I would try working on a sewing project I had started. I made a reversible polar fleece ruana. All I had to do was use the serger around the outside edges. Well, of course it didn't turn out that way. The serger I have is a "Tiny Serger" made by singer. This thing has obviously lived past it's prime. Hubby bought it for me as a gift back in 1998. It has held up well till now. The smallest gear off the axel to the motor is damaged and I can't find a replacement. So now I think it's time to retire the little serger, that would if it could, and upgrade. You Decide...

I finally started my Einstein Coat. Last week I went to a local store and found Lionbrand "Kool Wool" for $1.00 a ball. I couldn't believe it!!! So what did I do??? I bought 40. I worked my gauge swatch and actually came up with the right gauge. (Can you believe it??? I made a gauge swatch!!!) So far I have 20 ridges completed out of 200. If you don't know the Einstein Coat, it's from "Book 1: The Knit Stitch" by Sally Melville. I have wanted to start this coat for a very long time but was so hesitant because of all the garter stitch. The whole coat is garter stitch. Pictures of the coat can be found at the Ample knitters website under group projects or at this link...http://ample-knitters.com/einstein.html... or you can "Google" and for it. I hear this coat is a breeze if you can survive all the garter stitch. The worst part is the bottom. It's knit in one giant piece.

I think I'll put a hood on it instead of the collar. I would also like to use toggles instead of buttons and maybe add pockets. I need to read up a little more on how to make pockets before I decide on that for sure. I still need to finish my "Blue Sweater". It looks just like the one I made mom last year (only it's dark blue and blue variegated knit together). I only have the shoulder shaping left on one of the front panels and the second front panel to finish. I just can't get motivated. I think I burned myself out on that pattern by knitting mom's and mine so close together. I am half way done with my shawl. (That's a waiting room project.) The "Sweet tart socks" are also on hold at the moment. I completed the heel gussets and don't like how they look, so they will take a trip to the frog pond. I will only rip out the gusset and re-cast on. I just don't like how they look. I also have 3 sweaters for my "USM" that are in various stages of completion. I must be insane adding another project to all this. I guess my knitting ADD has kicked in.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://rockn-noggins.blogspot.com/2005/08/is-it-einstein-or-frankenstein-you.html' title='Is it Einstein or Frankenstein??? I finally got my new knee brace. It fits well, but it doesn't help much with the pain. It does seem to help keep my knee from buckling under me, which is a big accomplishment.

The Boy has moved into an apartment with his buddies. I have mixed feelings about this...I am happy he is out living his own life, but I miss my boy!!! He keeps telling Hubby and me that he wants to show us he has learned all the things we have tried to teach him. I just think he should have waited and gone to collage first. Maybe he just needs to find his own path. I wish you health, luck, and happiness my son.

Thank You to everyone who has wished me a Happy Birthday. I had a nice quiet day with no surprise, just like I wanted. I never did get a chance to place my birthday yarn order with knit picks. I am hoping I can do so in a few weeks.

On to knitting...I have finished my first pair of socks!!! I don't know why I waited so long to learn to make them.

My first pair of socks

Here is my sock yarn stash so far. The purple lion brand is almost a completed pair of socks. In the next few days I am hoping to have the second pair done. I only have the toes left to finish. For my third pair I will use the pink, green, blue and white yarn called "Sweet Tarts". I just love the colors in this yarn!!! This yarn looks just a little thinner than the Lion Brand. I may have to do "the dreaded swatch" before making socks #3.

Sock yarn stash

A few months ago I think I mentioned my bright blue felted hat...Well, here it is. I just love this hat. I made one like it, only taller for the girl last Christmas along with a neck warmer. I will try to get her to let me get a picture to show you. In the mean time, here's my hat.

Knitted felted hat

I will try to post as many pictures as I can while I still have this borrowed camera. Maybe this year I can buy one of my own...Maybe when I grow up. :)

Socks...

I have been working on socks lately. I started my second sock. After about 4 inches I realized that the first was a bit larger. I found my tension was not consistent. So, I made a visit to the frog pond. I started the sock over again and am happy to report that so far they match. I have now reached the point where I am starting the heel.

Have you heard about the new cotton sock yarn at www.knitpicks.com ? My birthday is next week, and I always try to do a little something special for myself...So I will be placing an order for some. I can't wait. I just love their stuff!!! A few weeks ago I got some of their simple stripes sock yarn. I haven't tried it yet but the colors are wonderful . It's a wool blend yarn. I also bought the book "Knit Socks Whatever the Yarn!" from eBay. It has patterns for super fine, sports weight and worsted weight. The way it reads to me, you can make socks from Sugar and Cream yarn. I always thought that would be kind of thick but maybe not. The book has patterns for ankle socks for the summer. So you can guess what my next sock adventure will be. :)

It's good to be back...

I wanted to thank everyone for their thoughts and well wishes while I was away from my computer. I am feeling better. It has been a long hard road with a lot of ups and downs but I am feeling better now. The herbal supplements seem to be helping. I think the medications where making me more sick than the decreases were. The knee is still giving me trouble but I'm dealing with it. I will be getting my new brace soon so maybe it will be a little better. I am told this new brace should help reduce the pain some...Boy I hope they were right.

I haven't finished the garter stitch shawl yet. Tonight is UFO night so I will work on it for a while. I will finish it someday. I just got bored with it, the color and stitch pattern. I have started a new project that has inspired me to knit again. I am working on my first pair of socks. I am having a lot of fun with them. Several months ago I purchased a couple of ball of Lion brand Magic Stripes Sea Blue color. I had hoped to learn to make socks someday. My local craft store had it on clearance. I was looking for something last week and came across these two balls of yarn and decided to give it a try. I only had the pattern on the wrapper so I decided to go for it. I have since purchased yarn and two sock books and can't wait to start my next pair. I have one sock done down to the decreases for the toe and have started the first two inches of the second sock. While making the first I forgot to move the stitch markers to the point where you start the toe decreases so I thought I would work the second one and use it as a guide for finishing the first...does that make sense??? Anyway, I hope to borrow a camera to get so photos to share with you. It sure is good to be knitting again!!!

Happy knitting!!!

I'm still alive...

I am still plugging away on my garter stitch shawl. Although I haven't worked on it too much lately. I have been having a lot of trouble with my knee, back and hip lately. It is very uncomfortable to sit here at the computer for any length of time. With all of the trouble I have been having I have decided to postpone the hat collection for a while. I am very upset about this but I am just not able to do it right now. When I am better I will return to the hat drive. I hope everyone will understand.

I have been posting as often as I can and will continue to do so...

Thanks for your support, thoughts and prayers. :)

I give up...

I gave up on my "To Dye For" sweater. I frogged and re-knit twice and just couldn't get it to work. I have no idea what I did wrong and neither did anyone else I asked. I cast on my stitches and started knitting, the stitches were making a swirling pattern. If you laid the piece out flat the vertical lines were not straight, I don't know how else to describe it...SO...I frogged it. I have decided to make a very simple garter stitch shawl instead. I am thinking of making a ruana using a cable pattern for my next project. The only thing holding me back is the fact that it would be a lot of cables. Who knows it might be fun. :)

I DID IT!!! I made cables...

Well I have been talking about it and I finally did it. I am so proud of myself. It wasn't hard at all. I don't know why I put it off for so long. I found the cable pattern at About.com in the knitting site. It was an 8 row pattern. I made a small pouch with drawsting ties (just to get my feet wet). I want to try making the "Irish Hiking Scarf" next. I found this pattern on the internet also. (if anyone knows the site, please let me know so I can give them credit. I forgot to save their address.) It's the same cable pattern I used before only it is three cables side by side. I thought I would finally use the cream colored yarn I bought months ago. I can't wait to get started. Now to try and finish that "To Dye For" sweater. I have been working on it. All the St. st. is good mindless knitting. Great to do while just sitting and talking or watching TV. I'm not too far from working on the bust line. When I get to that point I will drop down one needle size to make it a little more fitting on top. (I just hope it won't look like a maternity top!) Well I guess I'll go get to work, It won't knit it's self. :)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://rockn-noggins.blogspot.com/2005/01/i-did-it-i-made-cables.html' title='I DID IT!!! Ahh, Cleveland weather...This is winter. We have been in the deep freeze for several days now with no end in site, maybe the flowers and trees will be set to bloom in spring after all. Maybe things are calming down and going back to normal.

I am still working on my "to dye for sweater"...I told you I am not a fast knitter. I haven't been able to knit much lately, my hands have been bothering me a lot. So I have been planning my next project...Cables. I thought I would try a small rectangular swatch, and, when finished sew it into a pouch with a drawstring. It might be a nice distraction from the miles of ST. st. in my sweater. Now to choose a simple pattern, hhhmmm, I guess I will be on line looking for one. If anyone has any suggestions where I can find a simple one please let me know. I think I will go to the craft store and buy an Embellishment machine (I think that's what it's called). It makes a cord or drawstring from the yarn you are using for your project. You can also use it to make "frog closures" for sweaters or whatever. I just can't see myself knitting my drawstring. I don't have that much patience.

As I mentioned before, "The Boy" turned 18 a few weeks ago. Well, he has taken his first step towards manhood... He got a job!!! HHOORRAAYY!!! My baby boy is actually working! It's part time for now , but at least it's a job. He is seeking fulltime employment, but, there are just no jobs around here. He thinks maybe he will be able to eventually get in where he's at fulltime. He is also beginning to look ahead to the future...He's talking about going to school to become a chef. (That's just fine with me, I hate to cook!!!) :) I hope he finds a career he truly loves...I can't think of anything worse than having to do something you totally hate to do day in and day out. Good Luck Son...We are behind you every step of the way!!!!

What's with this weather?!?!?!

What is with this weather lately? Yesterday it was 68 degrees in my backyard...I wore shorts to physical therapy...IN JANUARY !!! Where is the blistering winter cold coming across Lake Erie from Canada??? Where is the knee deep lake effect snow that I have to make the kids to go out and shovel??? Is this Cleveland??? Don't get me wrong, I love snow at the holidays and just enough to cover the grass and coat the trees, is a beautiful site. I am happy that it's not knee deep and we don't have bone chilling freezing temperatures, if this was a normal winter I would most likely be totally house bound. I think this weather is crazy!!! I have heard that some of the flowers and trees are starting to bud...This is not good. If they bud now they will not bud in the spring. Rivers, stream, creeks and even backyards here are flooding like it's March. My mom's basement flooded. Poor mom...Like she don't have enough to deal with. What a job that is cleaning water out of a basement. I feel badly for those folks who have to do this to their entire home due to flooding. The rivers around here are very near flood stage a few have already spilled over their banks. I saw on the news that folks have been dealing with this for nearly 3 weeks now. When will things go back to normal? I understand that MANY other parts of the country are going through the same thing. If you are reading this and you are one of those people, just know you are in my thoughts.

On a lighter note...Therapy is going well. There hasn't been much improvement with my knee, but it isn't any worse either. I went to see the surgeon a couple of weeks ago. He drained my knee and gave me another cortisone shot. He removed a lot of fluid and said that He will most likely be doing this again in the near future. (Oh...What fun!!!... Can you hear the sarcasm???) I am waiting for approval of a hinged knee brace and a cane. I can't wait to get rid of that crutch I have been using. Not only is it ugly but I get a lot of stares when I use only one crutch. I never thought I would be happy to say I was looking forward to using prosthetics. (It's funny how things change, don't you think?!?!) A few months ago just the thought of using an aid was depressing and would reduce me to tears. Wow...I guess I have come a long way.

I am still working on the "to dye for" sweater. So far, so good. I have been checking the gauge constantly. It seems good. I have about 6 inches done so far. I will keep you informed.

The Frog Pond...

In my last post I told you I was working on the "to dye for" sweater from the first "Stitch & Bitch"...Well, last night I had to frog the whole thing!!! I had 17 inches done on it. What happened, you may be asking yourself?!?! I FORGOT TO CHECK MY GAUGE!!! I am not used to knitting on needles smaller than an 11 and the needles I decided to use where a size 8. (For anyone who doesn't knit this my not sound like much but it is a HUGE difference.) I had re-worked the pattern with a gauge of 4 sts. per inch and my gauge swatch was right on. I cast on and knit the first few rows (garter stitch in the round) then switched to St.st. After the switch I didn't check the gauge...I just kept knitting. When I measured the length I was on track, when I measured the gauge I was knitting at 4 1/2 st. per inch which shrunk the sweater by 5 inches around. Boy did I learn a lesson!!! I frogged it and started over again last night. So far I have 3 inches done. Here I go again. :)

Getting back to normal...

Happy New Year to everyone. As you can see, I have survived the holidays. We all got together for Christmas but, it wasn't here... at the last minute mom decided it would be easier to have it at her house. We had a wonderful time. It was great seeing everyone togther again. When all the little ones opened their gifts all you could see was paper flying everywhere. What a wonderful sight!!! New Years eve was a good time too. With family and friends stopping by there was never a dull moment. Another year gone...It just goes by too fast. The next event is "The Boy's" 18th birthday!!! I CANNOT be old enough to have an 18 year old...can I??? I thought that on his last birthday I forbid him to have anymore...kids today, they just don't listen!!! :)

On to knitting...
Machine knitting: I still haven't finished the boys hoodie. I hope that by admiting it to you I will be motivated to finish. I still need to finish one sleeve, start the other and make the hood. I just ran out of steam. I think the color of the project has a lot to do with my motivation. This hoodie is black. I find it very dificult to see the stitches on an all black project. My old eyes just aren't what they used to be.

Hand knitting: I started the "to dye for" sweater from the first "Stitch & Bitch" book. I decided to make it with Caron worsted weight yarn so I had to change the gauge and I had to adjust it for size because it was just a little small. I also decided to try knitting it in the round rather than on straight needles. So far, so good. I have 10 inches so far and all looks well. I may add a few extra inches too the length.

For Christmas I made "The Girl" The knitted collar from the premier issue of Vogue knitting "knit.1" magazine (pg. 45 pattern #16) and hat that looks very similar to the one pictured ("Fiber Trends" pattern for wide brimmed felted hat) She really liked them. Now she is after me to make her shoulder wrap on pg. 49 pattern #22. Maybe for her birthday...we'll see. ;)

What was I thinking!?!?!?...

I guess I wasn't thinking when I suggested to my mom that my family come here for Christmas Eve. I thought we could just put out some munchies and have a drink or two (soda for those who don't like spirits), give the kids their gifts and spend quality time just visiting. I thought we could just have a little get together... I wasn't remembering how everything turns into a big deal when we all get together. Normally I wouldn't mind but I'm still not up to speed yet. Since I opened my big mouth about getting together Christmas Eve I will be cooking for 20 people!!! I ran the idea past mom that I just make a ham with a few sides and chips. She was ok with it, I just don't know how my brothers will handle it. I love my brothers but they can be so demanding and picky. One has three kids 5 and under, he wants to have them home and in bed by 9:00 that night. That wouldn't be so bad but he has to work till who knows when. So he has know idea what time he'll show up. Well, I know I shouldn't complain... At least I have a family to share the holiday with. And even though it sounds like I am not grateful for that I most certainly am!!!

I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who wished us a Happy Anniversary. I still can't belive it been 19 years...All I can say is WOW!!!

I had stopped knitting a couple of weeks ago...I just didn't have the energy. Well, Monday night I finally picked up my needles again. (HOORAY FOR ME) I finished the "brilliant Blue" felted hat I started a few months ago. It came out great. It looks like an old style top hat. It's cool. If I can borrow a camera I will get you a picture. I have a felting question if anyone knows about felting...I read somewhere you should starch the hat and hit it with steam...Is this correct??? The pattern says NOTHING about this. I'm not sure what to do. It's felted and shaped and looks good but its not firm. I would like to make a cable hat band and I still have to make the sweat band for inside.

I don't think I will have the boy's sweater done for the holidays but his birthday is around the corner. I don't think he'll care when he gets it as long as he gets it. I will most likely just work on small projects for a while till things are up to speed.

I don't know how things will be going in the next few weeks so if I don't get to post again before Christmas please let me say now...

Please have a safe holiday and...

MERRY CHRISTMAS

19 years and counting...

Yesterday was our 19th wedding anniversary. I finally got out of the house for a little while. We went out for a steak dinner. We discussed the past and the future, our hopes and dreams and our up's and downs. My husband truly is an amazing man. He is my rock, my strength, my life and my love. I can honestly say, I can not imagine my life without him, nor would I ever want too!!! I would like to take a moment to say..."My love, I have always and will always love you.
Happy Anniversary Sweetheart".

I'm so very sorry for not posting like I should. It's getting easier to move around but it seems more painful since the surgery. It seems that when I fell I shattered part of my knee joint. The joint is very unstable. It now wants to buckle on me more often than it did before. Maybe with some physical therapy it will improve. OK... enough of this...

The Boy is doing well. His boken hand is healing nicely. On his next doc visit they will remove his cast, allow him to CAREFULLY wash his hands (thank goodness), x-ray and re-cast his hand. For years I struggled with him to get him to wash his hands...finally he is looking forward to doing so. Isn't it funny how things change??!!

Now on to knitting...I have completed the back and both sleeves of my blue sweater. Last night I started on a front pannel. The front usually doesn't take too long to complete. I would like to have it finished in the next couple of weeks.

I have also started a sweater on the USM. It's a sweatshirt style with a hood. The kids around here call them "hoodies". It's for "the boy" for the holidays. I am also planning a couple of other sweaters that can be mostly done on the machine.

And finally before I go, I would like to say Thank You to everyone for their "good vibes" and well wishes. Your thought and prayers mean so very much. Thanks again.

Still hanging in there...

Hi folks,

I just wanted to drop a line and let everyone know I'm still alive. I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee Monday. All went well. The doc removed two large pieces of cartilage and bone fragments. I go back to see him next week and will find out the details then. I have finally gotten to where I can get around with one crutch instead of two. And I need a little help getting in and out of the shower but, I think things are going well. My knee is SWOLLEN and very TENDER but I guess it's to be expected. I am getting some knitting done anyway. The back and one sleeve of my sweater (just like mom's sweater but blue) is done. Today the kids moved my knitting machine into the dining room so I can start some holiday projects. (I can't get up the stairs to my craft room yet) So with any luck I will have holiday projects to talk about.

This not having a camera sucks. Maybe if I'm a good kid Santa will bring me one. I did find a few photos in my PC that I can share with you. I must have downloaded them and forgot about them.

I didn't get a chance to distribute the hats before my surgery like I wanted. As soon as I am cleared to drive I will be passing them out. I am hoping I can borrow a camera.

I'll talk to you soon.

Hat drive up-date...

Sorry for not posting in a while, things have been a little busy around here. I have been working on a lot of hats lately...The deadline for the hat drive is approching very quickly. I have been making and sewing up hats like a mad woman. Hubby has taken to calling me "the hat lady".

Last week "the boy" broke his hand. Tomorrow he goes to see an orthopedic doc to have his bone re-set and a cast put on. He has a boxer fracture in the support bone (in the palm of his hand) for his pinky finger.

I was finally approved for arthroscopic surgery on my knee. I will be going in on the 15th. It's one of those out patient surgery's so I won't have to stay in the hospital. :)

As you can see, it hasn't been too dull in my little part of the world. I finally finished hubby's heather blue sweater. I would take a picture but I don't have a camera anymore. I had borrowed it from my brother and he needed it back. If I can borrow it back from him I'll take pictures of my latest finished objects and some pictures of the great hats that have been collected.

Talk to ya soon.

More fall photos...

Hello again,

Hubby and I went for another drive in the Cleveland Metro Parks yesterday and we took a couple more photos. If you ever come to northeast Ohio you have to check out our Metro Parks, they are just beautiful. They have stables, places to rent a canoe or row boat. There is a marina that allows for access to Lake Erie. There are miles and miles of trails, picnic tables (and pavilions, some with fireplaces) and visitors centers for education and family entertainment. It's a wonderful place! The photo's I'm posting are two different shot taken at the same place. I hope you enjoy them.

metro parks

metro parks 2

On to knitting...I finally got the sleeve of hubby's sweater frogged. I will try to have it done this weekend so I can have pictures on Monday. I also finished knitting another alpaca rolled brimmed hat. I will felt it this weekend and show you before and after pictures. I am close to the half way point on the back of my handknit sweater. I can't wait to finish it. I have already lined up my next project. I have decided it was time for me to learn to do cables. I made my first cable on the machine this evening, now it's time to learn to handknit them. I thought a nice hat, scarf and mitten set might be in order. (I've never done mittens either) I have some nice cream colored yarn in my stash that will work perfectly. In fact I would love to do a whole set. (hat, scarf, mittens and sweater) I think for the time being I will just think about the scarf (like I need another). I think it may be time for me to weed through my scarf box and clean to out. It seems like I am always working on a scarf when I'm in between projects. :) What can I say, scarfs are a wonderful way to learn something new.

AAAAHHHH...I Love Fall

Hubby and I went for a drive in the Cleveland Metro Park last week. I wanted to show you some pictures we took. I love the cool air and the rich colors that fall brings. One of my favorite things is to walk the hiking trails when the air is crisp and the leaves are falling. I would give almost anything to be able to do that this year, but it's not going to happen. At least I have a few pictures and the hope of maybe next year.

OK...I'm done feeling sorry for myself. (Sorry about that.) I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do...

I mentioned a little while ago about making a sweater on my ISM...well, I wanted to show you at least what the colors were like. I know the picture isn't very good, but at least you can get the basic idea. I love the colors in this yarn. They remind me of the colors of fall, deep and rich. I only have the back finished for now.

My ISM sweater

I am working on a sweater for hubby. A nice simple St.st. pullover in heather blue. I just have one sleeve to go, the neck band and seams then it will be finished. I can't wait to finish either project. I had started mine first, then hubby started hinting he would like a sweater so I gladly put mine on hold. Hubby isn't the kind of guy to ask me to make him something, so when he hinted at it I jumped at the chance. I have been making a lot of dumb mistakes with this machine. First I made a sleeve, got to the end and realized I did the decreasing wrong...so I had to frog it. Then I finished it and realized i put it on inside out...so, I frogged it yet again. Now on to the second sleeve... I put it on the right way, but, did the decreases WRONG AGAIN!!! So it is sitting on my machine waiting for me to frog this sleeve and start it again. I will get this right yet! (Oh...added bonus, hubby said he would think about letting me take his picture in the finished sweater. Who cares about the sweater, I want the chance to show off hubby...He's just so handsome!!!) ;)

On my needles right now is a sweater the same style as mom's but a different color. I just started it so when I have a little more done I will take a picture to show you. It has been a little rough the last few days...My last doc visit he changed my meds around and I have really been feeling it. I am normally not a fast knitter but now I'm a really SLOW knitter.

Thank You so much for the comments on my last post. I have had a few people ask how I did the hat so here it is...

My Hat

size 13 needles (US)
Lion brand fun fur
worsted weight acrylic (colors match)

cast on 56 st. k2 p2 all the way across for 6 inches.(flat knitting)

cast on 14 more and join to knit in the round (keep going k2 p2, mine didn't match up but I faked it and it doesn't show)

Keep knitting till it's tall enough to cover the whole top of your head.

While still on the needles, cut thead making sure you leave enough to pull through all stitches and gather togther at the top.

Turn inside out and knot.

I think the gathering at the top gave it the lift. If you have questions, please leave me a comment and include you email address and I will try to answer them.

Have a wonderful evening!!

F.O. I wanted to take the photo's outside and I don't think we have too many nice days left here.

This is my version of the "hallowig" from Knitty. What do you think? I had a little trouble understanding the pattern, so I came up with my own. The kids love it as you can see.

The Girl...This is her normal photo face.

The Boy...My ham!!!

I think it reminds me of a hairstyle from the 80's. Hubby thinks I look like "Raggedy Ann". He even tried it on, but I wasn't fast enough with the camera to get a picture.
The wig is not as snug fitting as I would like , so I think I will add some elastic to it. I will be making a few more of these for the hat drive since I still have a few weeks left. I think kids would really like this.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://rockn-noggins.blogspot.com/2004/10/fo-update.html' title='F.O. Now I have to sew the seams (this is the part I hate). I alway put off this part. I decided to make my own version of the hallowig and am almost finished with it. (I think I will be finished with it before I done with the sweater) If it comes out well I'll have hubby take a photo for you. And I will try to have the sweater done too.

I went to the doc yesterday and got my test results...He thought I might have Lupus, and ran a bunch of tests. He said with the results that came back I have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. The symptoms mimic Lupus. He put me on a bunch of meds to see if we can get things under control. He said with luck I should be feeling better in a few weeks. I hope so ...this being tired all the time is getting old. I think the worst part is the stiffness and tightness of my fingers (from being swollen). Sometimes I have a lot of trouble knitting.

With any luck I will have finished objects to report soon. :) Have a good evening.

Mom's sweater

I wanted to show you what the colors in mom's sweater where like...so here's the back.

Mom's sweater

Since my post the other day I have finished one of the front panels and most of one sleeve. As you can see I am using "Red Heart" yarn. As you may or may not recall, mom picked out this yarn while we were shopping one day shortly after dad passed away. Well anyway...She stopped by the other day and noticed it in my basket. (in the same basket I put all my hand knitting in and has been there since I started working on it) She walks in the door sees it sitting there and proceeds to pick it up saying "Oh... isn't this pretty. Boy that sure would make a nice sweater...and a warm sweater. This sure would make a nice present for someone." (as if I couldn't tell what she was getting at) I told her " Yes, I'm sure it would...(then, flashing back to my youth, when I would stumble upon a present I should not have found and getting busted in the process I repeted what some one had said to me... I said)
" Well now that you have found it, it won't be a suprise anymore so I'll have to give it to someone else...can you think of anyone??" OOOHHH...the look I got :) LLOOLL!!!! I wish I had taken a picture. I guess it's not wise to repeat what mom said to you and say it back to her.

I would like to thank everyone for your comments on "The Beast".
Talk to you soon... Yes, I know it looks like an old blanket but it's soft and warm. It's going to be great to wear when it's snowy outside. It's kind of hard to see, but if you look close you can see it buttons just under the hands. I thought this would help hold in the warmth a little bit. I'm proud of it!!! This is the first project I have ever just taken off on and done my own thing. I had so much fun with it , I may try it again but on a smaller scale.

My first felted hat

This was my first attempt at felting. I'm pleased with it. If you have never felted before you should give it a try. First you knit the hat. (It's 5 sizes too big) then put it in a zippered pillow case. (If you don't you will be picking fuzz and fur out of your washer for weeks) Then fill the washer with the hottest water you can get and add a good squirt of dish soap. Next I threw in a couple of towels and a couple of pairs of old sneakers. It took about 25 min (checking it about every 5 min). When it was the right size I removed it, rinsed it, and rolled it in a towels to dry it a little. I took it from the towel and shaped the brim and left it to dry. It took about 2 days. I have to warn you , wet alpaca doesn't smell very nice. Hubby and I both thought it smelled like an old perm. The smell does go away when it's dry. (thank goodness)
I think the color goes well with "The Beast", don't you think so?? I have made a few of these hats for the hat drive. They are soft, thick and warm. Just perfect for an Ohio winter when we get the wind and lake effect snow. (Can you tell I'm trying to get ready for winter?) :)

I would like to thank those of you (both on my blog and by email) who have wished me well. You have know idea what it means to have your support. I am in a little better state of mind now than I was on my last post. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. I will let you know what happens.

The Beast is Finished...

Well I did it... I finished the beast!!!YYYYAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!! I finished the other day. It is huge and very warm. I wore it to the doc's office the other day because I had a fever and it did the trick, it kept me toasty warm. I got some strange looks from people and was asked if I was expecting snow,(people can be so rude and insensitive sometimes) but I don't care it kept me warm. It will be great to wear this winter. :)
I started one of the front panels for mom's sweater. In fact I only have a couple more inches to go before I start the shoulder. After the beast, this sweater is a breeze (when I have the energy to work on it). I also managed to finish one of the front panels for the sweater I am making on the machine. Maybe this weekend I will be able to finish the fronts of both sweaters.

I must warn you now that I have the need to vent so please forgive me if I upset anyone. If you are sensitive to health problems you may want to stop reading now.

I mentioned my doctor visit, well...I do have R.A.. Doc decided to run a bunch more tests. He thinks there may be more going on than R.A. and that Autoimmune Diseases usually over lap. I am just hoping the tests come back ok. He gave me some meds and wants me to come back in two weeks for the test results and to see how the new meds are working. For anyone who doesn't know (I didn't till I researched it) Autoimmune Disease is when a person's immune system mistakes and attacks it own tissues. With R.A., the immune system attacks the fluid between the joints and destroys it. In doing so it usually leaves behind scar tissue that disfigures that joint. Left untreated R.A. can also attack the fluid sack in other parts of the body. If it attacks the sac around your heart you may develop congestive heart failure. If it attacks the kidneys, you could end up with renal failure. There is no cure but it can be controlled. It can even go into remission. Autoimmune Diseases are NOT contagious. The experts are not sure exactly how and why they happen. Some think it's genetics, some think its environmental and others think its traumatic. Everyone has an opinion but know one knows for sure. I am very hopeful that it was caught in time.
Anyway, for the most part I'm doing ok. I sometimes have a fever, I'm still not sleeping well at night so I nap when I'm tired. My appetite come and goes. I hand knit when I can and machine knit when my hands can't hold the needles. But it could be worse. Yeah, sometimes I feel like crying so I sit and knit. I guess you could call it my therapy. It's not the first time knitting has pulled me through and I'm positive it won't be the last time. :) I'll let you know what happens. I think it's safe to say that this has been a learning experience for me. I have always tried to enjoy life and to make every moment count. In light of what's going on I am learning to do that all over again.

October Already...

Well, another month has come and gone. I just can't believe how fast this year is moving!!! In a few weeks the leaves will be changing, there will be a crispness in the air and the holidays will soon be here. Where has this year gone?!?! The weather here has been a little cool here which hasn't helped my knee much. I am also finding that my hands are starting to ache more than normal when I knit lately. Needless to say I haven't been hand knitting much.

It's been a little rough here lately. Last week marked two years dad has been gone. I went to my new orthopedic doc and he says I need surgery on my knee. Then, I went to see my family doc and he told me my test results came back positive for Rheumatoid Arthritis. This means another doctor and another doc visit. (oh fun...)

Now, some knitting content...When I am not too tired, I use the ISM.(I will get back to that in a moment...first a report on "The Beast")The body and hood are complete. (The ends have even been tucked in.) I decided to attach the hood after all. I am about half done with the trim. I am hoping it will be finished soon. I will pick up mom's sweater again when the beast is finished.

Now, on to the ISM. I mentioned before that, I love my ISM. I made the back of a cardigan sweater with it in just a few days (normally I could have it done in one sitting). The body will be made on the machine. The cuffs, neck, button band and bottom ribbing will be done by hand. It's a pretty variegated yarn with rich fall colors. I was even thinking of making a matching skirt. I had to put the Einstein Coat on hold for now. If I can figure out how to convert the pattern to work on the machine I will make it on my ISM. I just don't have the energy right now to take on another huge project by hand. I think I'll stick with smaller ones for now. :)

The hats for the hat drive are still coming in. So far I have collected about 150 hats. (I have not done an official count yet.) Some are store bought some are hand made. I have a little over a month to go. I still plan to distribute them before Thanksgiving.

Sorry to go so long in between posts. I will try harder to keep up with the posts. Take care and have a wonderful day!!! Talk to ya soon. :)

The body of the beast...

The body of the beast is finished!!!! (YYYAAAYYY!!!) The rest shouldn't take long at all. This thing is so big I never thought I would finish it. I think if I ever make another one I will not modify it so much. I hope to have the camera working by the time I finish it so I can show it to you. I went to Wal-mart and picked up some more yarn, so I will have enough to finish. I also picked up buttons. The hood will button on and off as needed and since the sides are open I will attatch buttons there it so it can be buttoned for added warmth. I can't wait to show you.

We have been keeping busy around here. Hubby has been on vacation this week, so a lot of home repairs have gotten done (along with winterizing for this upcoming winter). He also made me a sewing table for my craft room. (YIPPY!!!) No more lugging the sewing machine into the dining room to mend and sew. No more just getting into a project and having to clear off the table because dinner is ready or the kids have a project to do and need the space. I can finally start a sewing project and walk away if I want and not have to rush through it!!! (Thank You Honey!!!) I can't wait to use it. I have been wanting to make a new knitting bag but have been putting it off. If I'm up to it today I may start it!!!

I still have another month to go for the hat drive. I have two large boxes of hats so far. One for the veteran's Hospital and one for the regular hospital. (Hats, scarves, do-rag's or anything that could be used to cover one's head, must be new.)Items can be hand made or store bought. If store bought The hospitals insists the tags remain left on. If you would be interested in sending a hat email me for a shipping address. Several wonderful businesses have contributed and I understand a few more want to help. Thank You to those of you who have contributed already.

Have a wonderful day!!! Then only the hood and neck to go. They should go quickly. I still haven't figured out that camera yet. I managed to get it to take a couple of pictures but I am lost from there. As some of you know I have had some knee problems. I have had these problems since April and they just don't seem to be getting any better. Now on top of that I am having other issues to deal with that have just left me drained. So...you will understand when I say I haven't been knitting much. When I am up to it I do a row or two on the beast. But for the most part that's about all. I have taken a few photos of different projects I will try to upload them tonight when hubby comes home. Well, I found a yahoo group that is all about the coat. You may notice a link on my sidebar. I was thrilled to find a group who is working on it.

I have also added a few new blogs to my list. I talk to a few of these people regularly and must say they are wonderful people with a great sense of humor. You should check out their blogs. So please feel free to look around and check things out. I hope your weekend went well. Mine was very laid back (just the way I like). Hubby made the chicken on the grill, or, at least it started out that way. We ran out of gas about half way through and I had to finish it in the oven. It was yummy just the same.

The boy and the girl spent labor day with friends who where having parties. I guess that's what happens when they get older. I think raising kids is much like the sesons. This point in my life it feels much like summer turning into fall. In just a little while the kids will be gone. I can see them blooming and growing while the colors in my life are turning richer. I know it's supposed to be this way but I don't have to like it.Anyway, enough rambing...

I have been working on the beast most of the day today. It has rained and been on the chilly side all day. It's been nice to work on it, I cover myself up with it as I knit. I may have a small problem with it...I checked my stash and it seems I may have estimated wrong when I bought my yarn. I may be short. I will let you know what happens.

A few weeks ago I mentioned a square I was making that was to be sewwn into a blanket for a sick friend. Well, the blanket is finished. Julie, (the woman who put it all together) sent me the following picture to share with you. Carol got it in the mail yesterday. I think everyone did a wonderful job. Thank you Julie for doing all the grunt work. The members of the "Ample Knitters List" are just an awsome group of people. I am very proud to be a part of their group.

Carol's Afghan

I have not been able to figure out this camera yet. And I even bought yarn for it...Well, I'm putting that sweater on hold. I think I will use the yarn to make something with cables. Maybe the cabled "Aran Poncho" from Canadian Living.com or maybe a pull over sweater. I have been wanting (for months) to make "The Einstein Coat" from Sally Melville's book "The Knit Stitch". I think that's my next project. I was going through my stash yesterday and found some Lion Brand "Jiffy". I think if I adjust my gauge swatch it will work.
The back of the beast is half done. I am hoping that in a few days, maybe a week I will be able to make the hood. I want it to have a collar with a removable hood.

I don't have much planned for this weekend. We may go to mom's this weekend. But mostly I want to get "The Beast" finished. I know hubby is roasting a chicken and corn on the grill Monday. YYUUMMYY!!!! (I love rotisserie style chicken.) I will make a garden pasta salad and some homemade bread. OOOHHHH...I can't wait till Monday, my mouth is watering already!!! I sure "The Boy and The Girl" will most likely be gone most of the weekend. If given the chance they would only come home to shower, change, sleep and feed. (But not in that order.) I'm off now to work on the beast. Have a great holiday weekend!!!!

I'm Back...

Well, we got mom moved. Boy what a job that was! I'm so glad it's over!!! I hate moving. I'm so very glad I won't have to move again anytime soon. We moved around a little bit when the kids were small. We lived in four different states and decided to come home to stay when dad took ill. I would not trade the experience for anything. It's one thing to visit somewhere and totally different to live there!! The cultures and attitude of the residents are different everywhere you live. It's amazing. But anyway...
This weekend we are going out to help mom set up the house. We will also be going through some of dad's belongings. Stuff mom didn't want to go through when she was alone. This is going to be hard on all of us. I'ts been almost 2 years since dad passed away and she still has a lot of his stuff. When he died she packed it up and left just left it. I wish she would have done the sorting before the move. I can hear him now yelling with a huge grin and sly a look on his face saying" You are all knuckle heads...Why are you making double work for yourselves??? I should rap you right up-side your noggin!!!" :)
Since we have been moving mom, I haven't gotten much knitting done. I added a few rows to the beast here and there. I had another doc appointment so I did cast on (and knit a few rows) for my "Dynamic Blue" wide brimmed hat. I am pleased to report I have not developed a rash from the wool /mohair blend yarn. :) Until "The Beast" is finished I think the hat will be a take along project. Tueday I will once again start work on more hats for the hat drive. (So many projects, so little time).
I finally got my book I was waiting for in the mail ("New Directions in Knitting"). The graphics were very good. Some of the designs where interesting but there is nothing in it that I could see myself knitting. Oh well, It happens sometimes! I will be returning it. Maybe the next book will be better. Well, I'm off to work on the beast.

Stash Enhancement...

I went Saturday and helped mom pack boxes. With my banged-up knee that's all I could do. Tape the boxes and fill the boxes, I had to have my brothers move them out of the way. Boy did I feel useless!!! Tomorrow will be just as bad. I have to go back out and help again. At least I can watch my nephew and keep him out of the way. So I guess it won't be so bad.

I had another doctor's appointment today. I'm getting tired of seeing doctors. I wish they had a clue. The only bright spot in my day so far is a trip to the yarn shop!!! If that doesn't cheer me up, nothing will! I bought two fiber trends patterns. "Felt Hats II" and "felt clogs". I have been working on hats so much
lately, I thought I would take a break and make something else. I only get to work on "mom's sweater" and "the beast" in the evening. You know, when the laundry is done for the day and everyone is feed and dishes are done and ect. The brief (and sometimes) relaxing time you get (maybe an hour) before you go to bed. The rest of my time is spent on housework and hats.
I have made a few narrow brimmed hats for the hat drive and wanted a couple wide brimmed for me. (They are quick, easy and fun to make) I really love the instant gratification factor. I even found some wool I think I may be able to use. In the past I have not been able to use wool. I would itch and break out into a rash. Someone suggested it may be a sensitivity rather than an allergy (to the way it's processed) so I played with some wool for a while. NO RASH, A lot of itching but no rash. So I bought some "Lamb's Pride" 85% wool/ 15% mohair. I bought Black and Dynamic Blue. I'll let you know what happens. I wonder if it will soften and get less itchy after it's washed and felted? I thought I could knit a band to go on the inside of the hat if itching is a problem. The clogs I'm nowhere near ready to start yet. It was something I saw on someone else's blog and thought they were neat and just had to have it. I always impulse buy when it come to knitting. Maybe I will have the courage to try them in a few weeks. We'll see. Catch you later.

Why knit hats...

I just checked my (AK)list and saw that my friend Carol is out of the hospital.I know how relieved I am so her family must be exstatic. I would like to tell you a little bit about Carol. I have never had the opportunity to actually meet met her in person but we have e-mailed. She is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Not long ago she told me of some major things that have happened to her in the last few years (cancer being one of them). And I myself in the last few years have had MAJOR loses and set backs in my life. I also realize there are folks out there who feel all alone. Yes, they may or may not have their family but they still feel as if know one else knows how or what they are feeling. I wanted to do something but had no clue what. One day,Carol mentioned cancer and it hit me like a ton of bricks. An epipfinay, if you will! HATS. Cancer patients need them because of chemo. Burn patients need the warmth and protection. Heart patients,(like my dad) wore one all the time. Because of his meds, he was always cold. He always wore a hat, sweater and a blanket on his lap. So "Rockn-Noggins" was born.
I have some folk out their knitting and crotcheting their fingers to the bone all thanks to Carol. So THANK YOU CAROL!!!

I have been a little under the weather myself lately. I don't know how much knitting I will get done. Mom is moving this weekend. And I just don't feel well. Sometimes life just makes you want to cry. I'm not going to sit here and feel sorry for myself! I'm of to knit a row or so then off to see if I can help mom. Then maybe I'll knit a little more later.

You Gotta Love It!!!...

Well, as you can see I have added links to some of the blogs I read daily. I have also learned (through much trial and error) how to make link button. If you scroll down to "The Art of Knitting" picture, it is now a link button. It connects you to the site. Once there you will find clips for all four of the "Art of Knitting " dvd's that are to be released. I don't think it's to bad for a newbie. I hope you will enjoy all these links as much as I do.

As for my knitting...It has suffered the last two days because of everyday life going on around me. (these blog problems, back to school, doctor visits and so on)Now that I think about it...When I have knit the most is at the doctors office. I always carry yarn in my purse (if that's what you want to call it. It's more totebag size than purse size. I think it boarders on diaper bag size!) I'm working on another hat for the hat drive. I stopped at the local senior center, who is generously making and donating head coverings of all types, and picked up a nice size box of hats. A local restaurant, "The Texas Roadhouse" has also donated hats. I would like to publicly thank Donna from "A.K." for the wonderful strawberry hat. I just got it in the mail. Thanks so very much!!! (A card is on the way.)

I think I will work on "mom's sweater" while it's quiet now...Then "the beast" later on tonight when people are running around screaming and yelling in preparation for school tomorrow. Something just bothered me about it...I couldn't quite put my finger on it, then it hit me. It was kind of hard to read. Don't get me wrong...I liked the template and colors and all, it was just hard on my eyes. So this morning I decided to change things. I picked my template, copied and pasted it into my PC, then hit the change button. Well... My info didn't save. So now I will have to do things all over again. (It's a good learning experience.) It will take a little time for me to get some thing back again, others are back already. I will also take this chance to add some more links. Please be patient.

On to knitting...I had to frog part of mom's sweater last night. I measured and it was just to long. So I will have to start the shoulder shaping again. I got frustrated and decided to work on the beast instead last night. (good old fashioned mindless knitting). I also checked out patterns for different stitches and colors. I have never done anything more colorful than stripes. I was thinking of two color changes or maybe a pattern like a cable for my next sweater. I don't know, we'll see what happens. Well, I'm going to get back to work on this blog. Talk to you soon.

UFO Night...

Since tonight is ufo night I thought I would talk about the project I would work on this evening...MOM'S SWEATER. A few weeks after my dad passed away, mom and I went shopping. We ended up at "Wal-Mart" of all places. Well, me being the compulsive crafter I am...I had to walk through the craft dept. (go figure, I guess that's what happens when you used to manage a craft department) The first place I head to is the yarn section. Now I can hear some of you out there..."Wal-Mart" yarn, EEEWWWW. Well all I can say is when you've got to feed the addition you do so by an means necessary!!! You buy what you can, when you can. Some of you out there know what I mean. :) Anyway, back to my story...We were looking at the yarn and I heard mom "oh"ing and "awe"ing. I turned around and saw mom looking at a pretty variegated skein of "Red Heart". It was all different shades of purple. Very nice colors. Mom commented on the colors and hinted that her favorite shades were all here.(Dad always liked mom in purple) Well...You can guess what came next. Several skeins ended up in my cart. I brought it home and picked a pattern. (It's a shawl collar sweater from "25 Gorgeous Sweaters fro the Brand-New Knitter" .) Of course the pattern I picked wasn't the right gauge for the yarn so it was back to the store for me. I bought a heather purple to strand with it. It looks pretty together. Mom knows she's getting a sweater but doesn't know when. I thought I would give it to her for Christmas so when she puts it on she can think of dad and realize he is still hugging her from heaven.

The beast and a plug...

Well, I finally started the back of the beast (my poncho) last night. I was wondering if I could pull it off, but I did. I wasn't thinking when I started this project and I knit the front first. So...When it came to the back (it's all knit in one piece with the only seams being where the hood meets the body and trim at the neck opening going up around the hood edge.)I had a gap of twenty stitches that needed to be filled.
I have only been knitting a couple of years. I had someone show me how to cast on, knit and purl then we moved. I didn't even know how to cast off. I had no one to teach me and the local yarn shop wouldn't help because I didn't buy my yarn or pattern from them. I couldn't get it from looking a pictures in books. So...I taught myself how to cast off with a crochet hook. (I can crochet just enough to make a simple scarf) Well anyway...I mentioned "The Art of Knitting" DVD the other day...Well, it shows how to add stitches to a piece in progress. I did what it said and TA Da, it worked. I just love this DVD. It has helped me more with problems and things forgotten than all my reference books combine. (I'm one of those people who need to learn by being shown. Sometimes I just don't get it by looking at pictures.)If you want to check it out I have linked it to my sidebar, click the name under the picture to go to their site(I haven't figured out how to make a link button yet). You should check it out. The second DVD comes out this fall. I can't wait!!! For inspiration I'll keep my books, but for technical how to's I'll take this DVD anytime.(http://www.TheArtOfKnitting,com)Check it out.
Well I'm back to working on the beast. I want to get this thing finished!!! Since Monday is UFO (unfinished object) night I will be working on mom's sweater. Please don't tell her about it, it's for Christmas. I need to do the shoulder shaping for the back, then it's on to the front. I'll tell you more about it tomorrow. I think I'm going to ask Santa for a nice digital camera for Yule. I think my blog needs pictures!!!

Not much new...

Yesterday I worked on hats and I bought some nice cream worsted weight for a sweater. I'm not sure what style yet, but, I want it to wear under the poncho I'm working on.(A.K.A. "The Beast") If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. (This thing is huge.)It's 62 inches wide and 32 inches long . It doesn't help much that I'm so fluffy. :) I finally finished the neck so now it's down the back then the trim and it's done. Whew!!!It feels like I have been working on this forever. Half Done!!! It's very similar to the free Bernat pattern in "Family Circle Easy Knitting" Fall 2004 issue. When I'm finished it will also have a hood....Ok, I guess I'm not half done.(It sure felt good to say it though.) I think I better go get busy.

Meet the family

Mr. Neander

The Boy

The Girl

I just wanted to introduce you to my cast of characters. The square should be in the mail today. I just got my first issue of "Knitter's" in the mail today...so watch your mail box for your's. A few weeks ago I sent in for that new magazine "Creative Knitting" and the book "New Directions In Knitting" both from "The House of White Birches". Has anyone gotten these? Mine haven't come yet.

The poncho is screaming again. I will need to work on it again. I am not getting enough knitting time in while I'm trying to set up this blog. It's proving to be a challenge. I have NO IDEA ABOUT P.C.'s. I don't think it's going to bad though. Everyday I learn something new!!!

Mr. Fluffy

Mr. Fluffy

Good evening all,

I just had to let everyone about Mr. Fluffy. I was accepted to the "Fluffy Knitters Blog Ring". It may not be much to some, but to me it's a big deal. The People in this ring are some of the nicest people I have ever come across not to mention some of the most talented. I am thrilled to be associated with them. (Just to let you know how happy I am about this, it took me 2 hours to get Mr. Fluffy's picture on this page. I'm not sure how I got it there, but it is there. I told you I'm new to this whole blog thing.) :) Anyway, he is the mascot for our web ring. Man, I gotta tell ya...WOW!!!!I saw some wonderful WIP today. All of the knitting out there is outstanding!!!! I know I will never posses the talent of these blogger but it did spark my creativity. (Another great place for inspiration is the "Ample Knitters Gallery".) I will finish the square I am working on for a friend then go back to work on the poncho I am working on. It is acrylic (I have problems with wool), variegated blue worsted and a cream boucle' held together and knitted as one strand.(I think it will look good with my blue felted alpaca roll brimmed hat I made a couple weeks ago.) I took parts from different patterns that I liked and combined them into the pattern I wanted. I have completed about half. I'm working on the neck opening now. (it's kind of confusing) If it looks ok when it's done I send a picture to Shelda (maybe she'll put it in the gallery, it could happen). It's plain by most knitters standards but I knit to relax (it keeps my blood pressure down). I was looking forward to it, oh well there's always next year. :) If I had tried to plan this a little earlier in the motorcycle season I might have been able to pull this off. So, until next season, I will continue to make hats. I am still collecting hats if anyone would like to donate. (Leave an e-mail address in my comments section and I will get back to you with a snail-mail address) I will be collecting them till November 12th and will be distributed to the Vetrans Hospital before Thanksgiving. Any hats collected after that will be held till the run next year.

I would like to wish Carol from (AK) a speedy recovery. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope so much that you will soon be able to return to your family. Please get well soon.

I recently discovered books on tape (or CD). Of course I had heard about them some time ago but never thought twice about them. Then not long ago someone said they listen to them while they knit. Then it hit me, DUH!!! Why not. Boy is it great. I listen to them all the time now. While knitting, doing housework or whenever I can. It sure does beat rotting your brain with all that t.v. watching. The best part is if you miss part of it you can rewind and catch what you missed. Try that with regular t.v.! Today I bought "Priestess of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley (on tape). I can't wait to start this one. A while ago I read her book "The Mists of Avalon" I thought it was very good. Right now I am listening to, "Atlantis Found" by Clive Cussler . It's not usually the type of story I'm interested in but it's pretty good. I think I'm hooked. Any suggestions for what to read next? Please let me know.

I can't believe the weekend's over...

Is it just me or are the weekends getting shorter?!?! It was Friday then all of a sudden it's Monday. Where did it go? Oh well, back to reality.

It's been a typical Monday. You know, errands and running the kids all over town. I was beginning to wonder if I would get a few minutes to write today. I took a break from the hats last night. I think I'll take today off too. After all it is UFO day. I have a poncho that I had put on hold, (since all the hat business came along) that is screaming to be worked on. I think I will pay some attention to it today. Mom's sweater (a Christmas present) is screaming too. Maybe I will divide my time between the two.

I picked up some eyelash yarn today at the craft store. I may go get some more. I want to make a sweater with it. I think it would be neat. I saw a patons pattern for a pullover made with it. I thought why not a cardigan? It could work.

Things are moving along with the hat drive. I should have details set in a few days. I have more phone calls to make in the morning. There's always something to do!!

Hats, Hats and more Hats and an overnight guest...

Yesterday I broke out the ISM to work on hats. I love my ISM!!! I completed several hats yesterday. I am hoping to put some serious time in today and make some more. I hand knit them in the evening and machine knit them during the day. I see hats in my sleep! Last night my brother Bob, dropped off his 2 and-a-half year old son. It was a nice distraction having a little one around. He was awed by my knitting machine. He even helped me make a hat for himself. He just woke up and asked to go back upstairs to make himself another hat. He's such a good boy. I wish he lived closer. Right now they live an hour away. I just don't get to see them enough. Well...I'm off to feed the little guy, read a couple stories and make him another hat! I sure do miss having a little one around!!!

Lazy Day...

I haven't done much today but work on this blog. I'm trying to get as much info up as I can. I hope it is helpful. :) when I am finished here I will go work on some more hats. (I have only had a few donations, I hope things pick up.) I have made two out of tan alpaca. One is felted, shaped and dried. It's a rolled brim style. I finished knitting the other last night. I will try to get around to felting it later on today. I think I will move on to some a little simpler in style and color. I think I'll use the good old acrylic left overs from my stash. I have a nice variegated lavender, purple, green, and white and pair it with a solid lavender. Yeah! That's my next hat. As soon as I figure out how, I will add some pictures of my hats. I have never worked on a blog or website or anything else like this before. So please bear with me. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks, huh?? I don't think I'm doing to bad for setting this up last night. ;) Thank You for helping me set this up last night honey. They will be given to paients who either from chemo therapy, an illness or due to medication are experiencing hair loss. I will accept any kind of hat or head covering. Many of the people receiving the head gear are very ill, so all must be new with tags on if purchased from a store (hospital rules). Store bought hats, knitted, crocheted, scarves, bandanas, do-rags or anything can be used to cover a head would be greatly appreciated. It doesn't matter if it's for men, women, teens or children, all are needed.

I told a few people last week I was collecting hats and the whole thing snowballed. The way things sit right now it looks like it's getting big. A couple of motorcycle groups are interested in participating. A local eatary has offered their establishment as a staging area and a luncheon after distribution. A couple of radio stations may also get involved. I am also seeking donations for prizes to be raffled off. I would like to be able to include the "Heart Association, Kidney, Diabetes and Arthritis Foundations and maybe a few others if I can get enough prizes donated. I'll let you know what happens.

A few weeks ago I purchased a DVD titled "The Art of Knitting". It's a great tool for experienced and novice knitters alike. It has a stitch library, knitting resource guide, and in-depth how to's to get you started if you don't know how or need a refresher course. (TheArtOfKnitting.com just in case you are interested) Any way, I got another one in the mail today. I called the company and told them I received a second by mistake. I explained to them about the hat drive and they said I could use it as a raffle prize. They also told me that the hat pattern that comes with the DVD may be used as a pattern for the hat drive. (What nice people) :)

I will be collecting hats through November 12th 2004. Hats to be distributed on the motorcycle run need to be received by September 17th 2004. Motorcycle distribution will be September 25th 2004. Final distribution for hats collected after the run is set for November 2004.

I will be posting a mailing address in a few days so stay tuned.
